چکیده

Title of thesis: A SYSTEMATIC APPROXIMATION TO THE NEURAL MOTOR CONTROL OF FORWARD, BACKWARD AND LATERAL TOE-TAPPING IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS Mohammad Ehsanul Karim Master of Arts in Kinesiology, 2014 Thesis directed by: Professor Jane E. Clark, Ph.D. Department of Kinesiology The neural motor control of forward, backward and lateral toe-tapping of typically developing adults, 6and 10-year-old children was investigated using the uncontrolled manifold technique. Our results indicate that the central nervous system (CNS) controls or stabilizes three functional variables (center of mass, toe and head position) by organizing the overall joint variability structure, more than the individual joints. Results reveal: (1) children control forward and backward stepping more than adults, and (2) adults’ forward stepping is more controlled than backward or lateral stepping. The relative ranking defining the approximate neural motor control of toe-tapping is: center of mass, toe and head position; indicating the CNS focuses on balance and foot placement. The observed invariance of this structure across movement phase, tap direction, and age, reinforces the idea that the CNS controls multi-directional toe-tap motion using similar neural control strategy. Effect of Backward Walking Training on Improves Postural Stability in Children with Down syndrome

Background Motor intervention plays an important role in reducing the disabilities of Down syndrome (DS). A lack of balance and postural control has created motor problems in DS patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effect of backward walking on postural stability of DS patients. Materials and Methods Sixteen DS children with 8-10 age range were selected by convenience s...

Comparative Approach to the Backward Elimination and for-ward Selection Methods in Modeling the Systematic Risk Based on the ARFIMA-FIGARCH Model

The present study aims to model systematic risk using financial and accounting variables. Accordingly, the data for 174 companies in Tehran Stock Exchange are extracted for the period of 2006 to 2016. First, the systematic risk index is estimated using the ARFIMA-FIGARCH model. Then, based on the research background, 35 affective financial and accounting variables are simultaneously used with t...

Oral Motor Indexes in Iranian 4- to 9-month-old infants: A short report

Introduction: Examination of oral motor indices in infants helps treatment team members identify infants who are delayed in these indices earlier and use the order of occurrence of these indices in normal infants as a criterion for treating infants with motor delay. Literature shows that oral movement indices are different in different races, cultures, and languages. The aim of this study was t...

Gait ground reaction force characteristics in children with and without forward head posture

Background: Forward head posture is one of the most prevalent abnormal postures in patients with neck disorders. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of forward head posture on gait ground reaction force characteristics in children. Methods: Twelve children with forward head posture (age: 11.8±1.3 years) and sixteen healthy control children (...

Global Solar Radiation Prediction for Makurdi, Nigeria Using Feed Forward Backward Propagation Neural Network

The optimum design of solar energy systems strongly depends on the accuracy of  solar radiation data. However, the availability of accurate solar radiation data is undermined by the high cost of measuring equipment or non-functional ones. This study developed a feed-forward backpropagation artificial neural network model for prediction of global solar radiation in Makurdi, Nigeria (7.7322  N lo...
